Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina
Jolie Voight, (born June 4, 1975, Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American
actor and director renowned for her sex appeal and edginess as well as her work
for the cause of helping others. She won an Academy Award for her supporting
role as a mental patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor
Jon Voight, spent much of her youth in New York before relocating to Los
Angeles at age 11. She was a student at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film
Institute for two years and after that, she enrolled at Beverly Hills High
School. New York University later taught her drama. Jolie also performed in
theatre productions, and was a model for music videos. It was during Hackers
(1995) when Jolie first met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1997;
divorced 1999). It was not a huge success, as were a number of other movies.
Jolie was the segregationist spouse of Alabama's governor, garnering the
attention of many in 1997. Jolie later won a Golden Globe Award. Jolie played
the supermodel struggling with drug addiction in the HBO film Gia in 1999. Her
performance was rewarded with numerous honours including a Golden Globe Award
and Screen Actors Guild Award. Following her Oscar-winning performance in Girl,
Interrupted, Jolie was in Pushing Tin, a comedy featuring John Cusack, Billy
Bob Thornton and Billy Bob Thornton. In 2003, she filed for divorce. She played
the wife of carjackers (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later
took on an accent that resembled a British accent, and mastered street fighting
and kickboxing for the roles of the title in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). Jolie played Alexander's
mother in Oliver stone's Alexander in 2004. She she also appeared alongside
Jude Law and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow which is a
suspense film about sci-fi set in 1930s New York City. Both films did poorly at
the box office, however Jolie did well in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She
played a housewife pretending to play an assassin. While working on the film,
she met Brad Pitt who became her co-star.
